AP Style on Twitter - Great day!

Twitter is a part of my daily life - work and play. So is "The Associated Press Stylebook."

The AP announced today on Twitter that they will be providing assistance to folks with style questions.

For me, this is a big deal. Oftentimes, the AP Stylebook isn't clear on some items. So all I have to do is send a tweet and include the hashtag #apstyle and my question will be answered.

Beautiful...

BTW, I'm @Lilyn on Twitter.

IMHO, if there's one place where AP Style should not exist, it's on the Twitter.

I find this a bit funny, yet highly necessary. When I think of twitter and its culture, AP style does not come to mind. Social networks such as twitter, facebook, and myspace are homes to many grammar faux pas. In an impatient society that wants everything immediately, taking one's time to use proper subject-verb agreement is just too time consuming. It's unthinkable...right?

Providing AP help may not produce masses of grammarians who speak and write properly, but it's definitely a start! With that said, I commend the "Associated Press Style book" for stepping into foreign territory (with the risk of rejection) as a means of improving our society's AP knowledge.
