Chrome: Shiny or in need of polish?

After a(n accidental) leak, earlier in thh day Chrome was unveiled to the world yesterday. I, for one, sat geekily at my desk waiting for the 2 p.m. launch, which then turned into somewhere around 2:16. But in the end, I have my Chrome.

Boys and girls, I think I like it. The tabbing is excellent and feels so natural. The bookmarking has a me a little confused, and I ran into a few issues on Facebook last night. But I am in love with the Incognito mode - perfect for secret Christmas shopping adventures on a shared computer!

I did read the explanatory comic and most of that tech stuff was over my head, but it seems that Chrome is a shining example of where the browser world should be heading.

What do you think? Is it shiny or in need of polish?

(If this is all new news to you, go to  http://www.google.com/chrome and download it!)

I like Google Chrome, but I had more than a few problems on Facebook. Some of my friends, at big Fortune 500 companies, also noted that they could not use Chrome at work.

I really liked the spirit of the comic. I thought they did a good job of talking about how they were just extending the conversation and hoped others would continue to expand the new concepts. Using comics does help explain difficult concepts to people (I have to admit a few of the frames were above my head as well).

Yep. It's a browser. Tabs, bookmarks, forward and back buttons.

Honestly, the greatest parts of this browser are under the hood. Stability and reliability. Improved Javascript support to help power the next generation of Web apps.

This is not a piece of software that Google is hoping is a huge, immediate hit. It is a piece of software meant to give the browser industry a kick in the pants.

Judging by how they're describing the engineering, it sounds like Chrome ought to be a lot more secure, fast and stable than other browsers. We'll see.

I'm hoping Google's better at making browsers than Microsoft is at making search engines.
