A font that supposedly saves 20% ink usage in printers because it has holes in it.

Is this the next step in green?  Or is it just over-the-top stupid?

I think a real test would be to type out an entire page of the font in 10 or 12 point size, print it out and see if it's readable or just looks like swiss cheese.

If it could save millions of gallons a year in ink, then it would be worth considering.

Interestingly enough, screen fonts work in reverse. The blacker a screen is, the less energy the monitor consumes. So the onscreen alternative of this is to make letters as blockish and black as possible with as little white exposed.

Have you guys seen blackle.com? It is an energy-saving Google. Using Blackle is supposed to save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year.

Saving ink? What? Madness... If you want to save the environment, either don't print things at all (because no matter how many holes the fonts have in them, you're still wasting paper, which is a more precious resource), print double-sided, or print 2- or 4-up per page...

    People are silly.
