I can't stop proofing.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have a proofing habit. It's creeped up on me over the years, I think. But lately has become more and more evident in all that I do. And I mean everything.
I can't stop proofing. Or editing. Or correcting. Everything.
I believe it all began with my PR degree from NC State, with a minor in journalism. I was intimately familiar with AP Style for both. We'd have whole tests on editing. And I loved it!
Fast forward a few years and I'm at Capstrat as an account executive. Boy, did I love proofing and editing our documents - from proposals to media plans, press releases to ads. And I think I was considered good at it by my coworkers. Fast forward a few more years and I became a Web producer at Capstrat, and the fun continued.
Now, though, it goes beyond work. I edit every little homemade poster that businesses place on their windows all over town (with bad fonts and ink jet color printers). I edit 'Home for Sale' signs in the neighborhood. I critique the inappropriate use of punctuation and inconsistent formatting. I question the wording in a TV spot. These things drive me crazy!
Hard to imagine life like, say my mom, who doesn't look at things to such a detailed degree. Who sees the wrong use of 'want/won't' or 'your/you're' and moves on. Yes, that will never be me.
I obsess over words and punctuation and formatting. And I'm OK with that.
