Okay.  So all of us in the public relations world have had know-it-all clients.  But imagine having a client who has been declared doctrinally infallible for centuries.

Pope Benedict XVI is not, shall we say, inclined to take responsibility for priest abuse scandal that is afflicting his church.  News reports -- which the Vatican has disputed -- disclose that then-Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger approved the transfer of a pedophile priest from Wisconsin to Munich.

Condemnation of news reports and the sources of them has been widespread among Benedict's supporters.

Oh, brother.  Or maybe, Holy Father.  He's in a tough spot.  Chances are 50-50 that Ratzinger, nee Benedict, didn't know the details of that Wisconsin-to-Munich trade.  But as an archbishop, a cardinal and as pope, is he responsible?

A show of concern, compassion and humility would go a long way here.  Instead, the church seems to have made the decision to circle the wagons and throw cow pies at any who have a different point of view.

I guess it's hard being infallible.  If anyone this side of the grave really is.
