Capstrat today announced that Andrew Meehan and Anna Marshall Gauss have joined the firm’s public affairs team, adding new media and grassroots coalition building muscle to the firm’s powerhouse team of experts on issues management, lobbying, media advocacy and opinion leader outreach. As account director and account executive, Meehan and Gauss will help the team align smart insight with winning execution for clients’ most complex public affairs challenges.
“As digital media continue to grow as a prevalent tool in all aspects of communication, it is imperative to have a team that can harness the power of new media for public affairs initiatives,” said Leslie Bevacqua Coman, EVP Government Relations. “Andrew and Anna Marshall bring a great blend of traditional public affairs experience and new media expertise that will help our clients seize a broad range of new opportunities.”
Prior to joining Capstrat, Meehan was the Manager of Government Affairs for the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives. He has extensive experience mobilizing grassroots networks, creating message campaigns and lobbying before the N.C. General Assembly. Meehan took the reins on a major grassroots initiative for energy policy, harnessing the consumer power of 26 individual co-ops. The initiative mobilized audiences to send tens of thousands of e-mails, letters and phone calls to members of Congress, bringing electric consumers into the energy policy debate on Capitol Hill. Meehan graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Before Capstrat, Gauss was associate account executive at Ketchum PR in Washington, D.C. Anna Marshall specialized in advocacy, coalition building and new media. While helping build awareness of the issue of human trafficking for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Gauss helped her team earn a PRSA National Capital Chapter Thoth Award for outdoor PSA campaigns. Gauss graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
