RALEIGH, N.C. - Capstrat, a strategic communications firm with offices in Raleigh and Washington, D.C., has endowed a $100,000 scholarship program for students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The scholarship supports diversity at the School, which is consistently rated among the best journalism programs in the country. Two Capstrat scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded annually from the endowment.
The Capstrat Scholarship, initiated by CEO Ken Eudy, a 1975 graduate of the School, is intended to encourage diversity among communications professionals and increase opportunities for minority and disadvantaged students. Scholarship recipients will also have the opportunity to intern at Capstrat. All students in the School are eligible, with preference for minority students with a demonstrated interest in new media, multimedia, media planning, advertising or public relations.
"We're fortunate to have the resources to endow this scholarship," Eudy said. "Supporting the development of communications professionals with diverse backgrounds and experiences is not only the right thing to do, it's also good for our business."
"Capstrat's gift will increase access for students to growing sectors of the communications field -- political communications and public relations," said Dr. Jean Folkerts, dean of the School. Gifts such as Capstrat's are instrumental in allowing the School of Journalism and Mass Communication to reach its goals. We are continuously grateful for loyal alumni like Mr. Eudy and their dedication to the school."
