Capstrat Announces Danielle Lee as 2007 Recipient
Capstrat, a strategic communications firm with offices in Raleigh, N.C. and Washington, D.C., announced Danielle Lee as the 2007 recipient of the first ever Capstrat Scholarship. The announcement was made yesterday during the annual honors convocation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Raleigh-based firm recently endowed a $100,000 scholarship program for students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The scholarship supports diversity at the School, which is consistently rated among the best journalism programs in the country. Two Capstrat scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded per semester from the endowment.
Lee, a junior in the journalism program, plans to graduate in May 2008. Originally from Rochester, N.Y., Lee volunteers at the Carolina Women’s Center, works on campus and serves as the editor-in-chief for Black Ink, a publication of the Black Student movement that voices the concerns of minorities on campus. Lee also interns with Carolina Parent Programs.
The Capstrat Scholarship, initiated by CEO Ken Eudy, a 1975 graduate of the School, is intended to encourage diversity among communications professionals and increase opportunities for minority and disadvantaged students. Like all future scholarship recipients, Lee will have the opportunity to intern at Capstrat. All students in the School are eligible for the Capstrat Scholarship, with preference for minority students who demonstrate interest in new media, multimedia, media planning, advertising or public relations.
“We’re very fortunate for the ability to offer this inaugural scholarship to Danielle,” Eudy said. “She is a deserving candidate with a passion for success, and we know that the money we are investing in her education is a wise thing to do.”
