Tobacco. Reality. Unfiltered. (TRU)
Health and Wellness Trust Fund
The NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund (HWTF) is committed to helping North Carolinians live healthier lives. Preventing tobacco use among North Carolina’s teens is a key part of that mission. Research tells us that hard-hitting testimonials about the serious health consequences of tobacco use are the most effective way to reach teens.
We produced a series of television spots featuring Reena Roberts, a 29 year old cancer survivor from Asheville, North Carolina. Reena started smoking at 13 and was diagnosed with throat cancer at 21. Her voice box was removed in order to survive.
In an arresting testimonial, Reena discusses the physical consequences of tobacco use.
Reena’s powerful story wakes teens up to the reality that tobacco can affect your health – even at a very a young age.
Without her voice, Reena sends a powerful message to teens about the consequences of smoking.
